US Refuses to Liberate Raqqa From ISIS Together With Russia

Translated by Ollie Richardson for Fort Russ
30th March, 2016

Irony from a Vice News interview
[Note: Two narratives were published in the Russian media; it is likely that the US is trying to distance itself from cooperation in public, but behind closed doors other things are being said.]

The US will not conduct a joint operation with Russia in the operation against ISIS, a terrorist organization prohibited in Russia. Washington said that the US military will conduct limited tactical negotiations with Russia.

"These discussions focused on the issue of blacklisted airstrike areas to avoid incidents. We do not plan to do any joint operations, - quotes Interfax from a source in the presidential administration of the US.

The White house stressed that they welcome Russia's efforts in combating terrorists and maintaining the ceasefire. However, in Syria, Washington chose other companions.

"In Syria, we remain focused on equipping and mobilizing local forces who are motivated to fight ISIS," said the White house.

As a reminder, on March 27th, Syrian government troops, supported by militias and the Russian Airforce, completely liberated Palmyra.
