Red was activated in Cancun, Quintana Roo due to the attack of armed
men to the Attorney General and the Control Center, Command, Computing
and Communications (C4) at Av. Xcaret, in downtown Cancun, Quintana Roo.
According to preliminary information,
armed people arrived at the scene detonating firearms at will. 10 armed
men aboard several motorcycles attacked the site, leaving one dead and
several people injured.
The area was cordoned off by the authorities, closing the Attorney General Headquarters.
Reports of gunfire in several areas of Cancun
According to police reports, there were also attacks on Avenida Nichupte with grenades, leaving one person dead.
Police arrested a suspect allegedly involved in the incident.
The persecution continued on several
avenues of the city, starting on Ave. Xcaret, where the armed attack
began, continuing along Avenida Cobá, where there are also reports
of several injured people.
Allegedly, there are three wounded civilians in the area of La Gran Plaza.
The latest preliminary reports mention that the hotel zone of Cancun and the exit to Playa del Carmen are closed to traffic.
Around 10 ambulances have been
registered in all areas of Cancun; some of the injured began to be
transferred to the IMSS clinic on Coba street.
There were also reports of gunshots inside Plaza Las Américas Shopping Center.
According to information from Radio
Formula website, the armed squad that broke into the C4 Command Center,
went there to extract a person known as Leticia Rodríguez Lara (aka
“Doña Lety”), who is allegedly the local drug cartel leader.
It is confirmed that the hotel zone of Cancun is operating normally under absolute peace and order though.
