Syrian army scores major victory after 'pulverizing' Daesh & Nusra Front in Homs
The Syrian air force secured a major victory on Sunday destroying a number of terrorist positions and gathering centers in the country's northern Homs province, Iran's Fars news agency reported.
The airstrikes came as part of an ongoing offensive by the government forces and National Defense units in the eastern part of Homs city, Iran's Fars news agency reported. In a parallel development, the government forces flushed out al-Nusra militants holed up in the northeastern part of the strategic city.
Also on Sunday, Syrian air force jets destroyed a number of Daesh positions in Homs province inflicting heavy losses on the enemy both in manpower and military hardware.
According to battlefield sources, a number of al-Nusra positions in the villages of Tir Ma'ala, al-Jassemiyeh and al-Ghajar and in Talbiseh town were pulverized in a series of airstrikes by Syrian air force jets.
"The Syrian fighter jets also targeted several ISIL vehicles on a road in al-Buseiri area, near Palmyra (Tadmur) highway, killing all terrorists in the vehicles," the reports said.
On Saturday, the Syrian army and air force continued their advances in Homs province killing and wounding scores of militants in fierce clashes on the outskirts of al-Quaryatayn city in the southern part of Homs province, the agency reported citing military sources on the ground.
Four months of Russian airstrikes have tipped the momentum in President Bashar Assad's way as the Syrian army, backed by Russian air power and allied forces, including Hezbollah units and Iranian fighters on the ground, has been regaining ground on key fronts in the west of the country.
